My buddy bought some of the Subjects Ammo in 7mm and I bought some in 223 and he found one casing with primer in but no bullet and casing slightly mangled. I had every third round misfeeding and one dud with an obvious strike on primer. we both went to another make of round the next day I used federal and he shot hornaday and neither of us had one bad round or misfeed. tried to contact company off of thier website and it was like trying to rope the wind. Any one else had a problem with this ammo and who is making winchester ammo as I thought they went out of business?

Never had an issue with Winchester ammo. Its almost exclusively what I shoot.

"almost Exclusivly" is that like "almost pregnant"? every one here at the range told me it is thier last choice for ammo and it will be my last choice as misfired ammo is dangerous to all who are around it. and QA is not high on this companies mind in my opinion.

I personally don't like the Winchester ammo products for many reasons but as far as not going bang after a good striker hit, never had it happen where I could blame the ammo.

Many range firearms have had their hammer springs and fireing pin springs lightened. Many firearms set up from the factory for target shooting are similar, especially pistols.

Winchester rimfire ammo, like their primers and brass cases are made of harder materials than those of other manufacturers.

Because of this, those that like small groups avoid these products because they are just another element leading to inconsistencey.

Every time I have used the WW brand ammo, other than the TT grade, I have had issues with my match firearms. Saved the misfires and shot them out of my regular grade firearms with no issues.

Winchesters premium stuff (usually a black box) is fine. Their cheaper ammo (usually a white box) has a track record of a lot of issues. There was a thread about 9mm white box ammo that had cartridge overall lengths varying up to 1/4" in the same box. One theory that seemed to have traction was every so often a box of factory rejects would accidentally get put out with the good ammo.

Winchester unprimed brass cases are also prone for being dinged, dented, and often short one round in a bag.

I haven't found this to be the case at all. I have an old Cooey with a loose chamber and Winchester ammo regularly splits upon firing. Federal and CCI ammo work just fine (I believe CCI makes Federal rimfire ammo.)

I have had great luck with all sorts of Winchester ammo from .22 LR to .300 Winchester Mag. Nary a problem. I have even found the power points and silvertips work very well considering they are just simple conventional design.

Shot lots of Win White box over the years and never a problem. Haven't been shooting/buying it lately though so not sure if new production is different. I started reloading and haven't looked back!

I've never had a misfire with winchester centerfire ammo in any caliber....who are you buying your winchester ammo from?

i take wnchester over remington any day. Especially rimfire. That being said, the last box of 7mm rm i bought had two mangled cases. They still went bang but i cant reload them

Winchester rimfire ammo I've found to be complete garbage.

Anything center fire tho has been excellent.

That's interesting; I've found most Win rimfire ammo to be decent (though not my first choice), but would choose Win centrefire ammo last of the major brands.

Your old Cooey, has likely not been match tuned and was made to fire the hard primer rims that were so prevalent back in the day of its manufacture. I doubt that rifle will have trouble making any rf ammo go bang.

For some of us older fellows here, some of you must remember the heavily greased, black lacquer, Russian surplus 22lrrf that came in the big 2500 round sardine cans for $8. The cases were made of steel and loaded with lead bullets. The whole cartridge was stained black and slathered in lubricant.

The priming rim on these cases was hard as they come. Many pistols of the time, wouldn't consistently shoot them. To bad, because they were hellishly accurate.

My Cooey's loved them, all except for the damnable model 64 with the self destructing plastic mags, that were ahead of their time and not intended for extended use.

I had a S&W tuned target revolver at that time and was very disappointed when the Russian ammo wouldn't fire in it. I soon found out how important a hammer spring or firing pin spring is to positive ignition.

Recently, a friend of mine bought a lovely tuned, double action only S&W 38spl from me. I warned him that the pistol was primer fussy and that he should use match grade primers. Not much later, trying to save a few pennies, he loaded up some fine looking ammo, with what I suspect, were WW small pistol primers. Even at the maximum adjustment, many refused to go bang.

just to clarify my original post. this was a new gun and no problem with other ammo. and the primer was wacked 3 times and nothing went bang good hits on primer and the main thing there was no way found off of thier website to put in a complaint they are a shell company for a big corp. and do not seem to care so buyer beware a dud can kill if not dealt with properly,

I have had no problems with any Winchester ammo in .223, .308 and 30-06, my local gun store brought in the white boxes off the 223 and i have never heard of any problems from anyone that used it.

I also reload for all 3, out of roughly 80 boxes only 1 case couldnt be reloaded because of an indent.
