Winchester Balistic SilverTips 30-06 180g

Have a look at the 30 cal bullet test stickied at the top of the hunting rifle forum. The current production 180gr ballistic tip is in no way a fragile bullet.

BINGO! The 180 Ballistic Tip is not a frangible bullet by any stretch of the imagination especially when launched from a 30-06. It has a very thick jacket and I would never hesitate to shoot a moose with that combination.

The 180 Ballistic-tip shares the same jacket/substructure as the 180 Accubond. I've driven one through a Yukon Alaskan moose in a .300 Win. In the magnums the Accubond might bring on a feeling of security or a warm fuzzy feeling, but in a 30-06? Just pick whatever 180 you like the colour of the box on and go hunting.

I shot an elk with the same bullet out of a .300 win mag and the bullet made it about four-five inches in and disintegrated. I think out of .30-06 velocities, it would not be bad, but at close range, the potential would be there for shallow penetration.

I use the BST for deer and the XP3s for moose as they are designed for thicker skin and muscle. Love the silvertips for deer and will keep using them as long as they make them. Depending on the distance of the shot they can make a mess but I hate tracking deer so its a compromise I'm willing to make.
