i do like win 94's for thier light weight handling characteristics. and I have a marlin 444s which i can tell you packs a whallop! the round is capable of taking any north american game within 200m easily, but it has a couple drawbacks if you don't reload. as far as factory ammo is concerned it is limited to remington 240 grain bullets which are really best suited for deer due to the frangible pistol bullet it uses, and the hornady gummy tips which perform well on most big game short of the big bears... both of these bullets will cost you about $50-$60 per 20.
but if you handload it is fantastic. there are many decent bullets available for it including hornady 265 fp, hornady 300 xtp, speer 270 GD and 300 unicor to mention a few, and high quality gas checked cast bullets can be found online for a reasonable cost that take it to another level all together.
the other added bonus is that the winchester has a much faster twist than the older marlins and will easily stabilize heavy cast bullets up to 400 grains, making it capable of quickly taking down any animal on this continent, including the big browns and alaskan moose with proper shot placement.
