Winchester brass...WOW!

Just getting into reloading ,so I bought some new(I think)Winchester brass in .300 WSM....MAN ,this stuff looks pretty beat up.The necks on many of the pieces are in bad shape ,literally.Is this common for Winchester new brass?I`m wondering if I should full length size this stuff.

I dont think its common although I buy rem brass in a bag and I can see how some cases can get damaged during transport.

you should always FL size new brass
 
The reason I ask ,is I also bought some Remington .22 Hornet and the brass looks in much better shape.
FL size it is.Now to find some Varget for some test loads(hard to find, always sold out)

google higginsons powders they are in ontario but they ship anywhere their prices are low and they always have powder.

Shipping is expensive tho thats the down side so make sure you order more then 1lb....
 
Always, always, always full length size new brass! Just because it is factory new, doesn't mean it is sized correctly & ready to load. Cases will get bumps & dings from rough handling. Be sure to lube each case thoroghly before sizing to prevent getting a case stuck in your sizing die.

You SOB....(LOL) I was there today(Satuday 9:55 AM) ,all gone.WWS ,all gone.
As I said, a newb at reloading ,had no idea this stuff was so popular.If it works out in my loads, I`ll buy it by the case.

Varget is good, but there are other powders that work well in 300 WSM as well. Don't be afraid to try H4895 or H4350 if you can't get a hold of some Varget.
 
I bought a bag of the same brass from Wholesale and it was pretty beat up to. Should have bought two as they have none left now. A lot of dudes must have got 300 WSM rifles for Christmas. :D

Yah well ,that`s where I bought it from on Saturday.I realize it`s not WWS fault.Perhaps I should have bought the .300 WSM Rem.brass I saw at cabelas/SIR instead.Oh well ,I also have some once fired Federal brass I used to sight in my gun.

Yeah, that’s a chance you take when you see something at the store and figure you’ll pick it up on the next visit. I looked high and low for some 260 Rem. brass last winter and when it was in stock in the spring , I picked up 10 bags without hesitation...:D
