Winchester bulk - the whinging continues :p

555s are my go-to boxes for trips to the gopher patch. The deep hollow point hits the little buggers like a grenade, and they are accurate enough out of my Marlin 7000 that offhand shots out to 40 or 50 paces are easy. Do have the occasional problem with sticking cases, but its fairly rare.

I would much rather run with CCI Mini Mags, but they are hen's teeth out here right now.

It's Dynapoints that are my bane- have three bricks worth, but they are full of misfires and sticking cases. The 7000 just does not like them...

I have a CZ 452 varmint in 22 lr. The Winchester 555/333/222/ works very well in it as well.
Seems that all who are shooting CZ rifles report positively on that brand of bulk.

If someone is out there in CGN land, could you try some of the Winchester bulk in a CZ 512 and report back please? I am interested to know what the performance of this ammo is in that rifle. The CZ 512 is about the highest grade keep it real .22 semi auto out there. Thanks, Tony

My experience with the Win 555/333/222 is that 3 1/2 years ago this was the best value ammo for my 10/22. 3rd most accurate out of my GM Bentz chambered barrel (competing favourably at 50m with CCI Standard Velocity).

The stuff that I've tried in the last year though is ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Constant failures to feed. From my perspective QC has taken a dive.

none of my rifles use any winchester, same with the shotguns, , my ruger hated it, every second round would ftf, or jam, even my daughters savage rascal didnt like it, and you can run anything through those, american eagle is my fav by far these days, that and cci minimags, i have 2 boxes left of the win bulk crap and they are jsut used to hold down paperwork on top of my safe.lol

Win222/333/555 bulk has worked well in my Buckmark rifle and pistol, and Marlin 795.
No problems in any of my bolt rifles.

I tested some latest winchester bulk in 333 and 222 packs and never had any misfires or duds, thats with 2 rifles, so far so good, thought they were crap..

Rifles tedtes with: Henry Octagon lever action and Ruger American Rimfire.

Both repeaters. You could use almost any .22lr in the rifles and it would load & fire.

Score 2 points for .22lr repeating rifles due to the #### ammo situation.

To slightly derail, I once had a .22 bolt action single shot. It had a ringed chamber. To get some use out of it, I used it to shoot some really old Winchester .22 short hollow points dating back to the 1970s. I was surprised in that about one in every 7 or so rounds would not go in the chamber.

My club is using a bunch if it for our Jr .22 program.

It's giving us fits when shot from the Savage Mk I's. One round in 6 needs to be pried out of the chamber like it's glued in place. Some other guns seem to be that way too.

But the Ruger 10/22's that a few bring along to use eat it just fine. And my Henry that I take along for them to shoot also eats it just fine.

The issue seems to be an excess of the wrong sort of wax on the cases. I made some of the ammo a little less prone to sticking by rubbing it iightly between two layers of paper towel lightly dampened with oil paint thinner. This made the cases noticeably less waxy feeling. It also reduced the number of stickings to around 1:15. So it did help but didn't cure the issue.

We've used the Winchester bulk before and never had this sort of problem. It's only on the current batch. The problem is that we've got another 5K or 6K of it to use up....That's a LOT of stuck casings.
I too experience this when shot out of rascals that my little guy and two of his friends have. I was suggested to throw a box in tumbler and check if it gets better after too. Not sure why its only this brand and only in all three rascals, shoots fine in my other rimfires and is actually decently accurate for plinking.

Duncan, if you try that and it helps please let us know and perhaps PM me. We're looking at ANY option to fixing the darn stuff ! ! ! ! !

In fact I'll call the guy that has the ammo and ask if he can try this with one box. I'll report back with the findings.

I've got 333 boxes that run just fine in my 10/22 and M&P. In fact I like them for those guns. Winchester plastic box super X however seems to suck moldy pancake batter. I can't get it to function reliably in any of my semi autos, and my bolt action isn't finding them accurate. 4 inch groups from a 1 hole gun when using other ammo.

I have maybe 90 rounds left of Winchester m-22s I was unhappy to find that my cz 455 did really well with them, second to match ammo. Now I have to source some more.

Betcha Winchester gets the .22 components from China and are just assembled in the US. Guns they're good at making(Norinco), but what do the Chinese know about making gun powder?

I hear about issues with bulk ammo all the time in these threads but I have yet to have issues with any of the ammo I have tried in my 10/22 since purchasing it new a year ago in February. I am on my 6th brick. What I find is around the 250 round mark I start to get 1 of every ten rounds as an FTE of any ammo type due to the rifle starting to get dirty. A 5 min tear down and cleaning rectifies the issue each and every time so I know it is not an ammo issue. To date I have had only 1 FTF and not sure if that was a dirt issue or an ammo issue as the round fired after being rechambered and struck a second time. It was a Winchester Expert round.

I submitted my complaint to winchester over a batch of dud 555 packs I have. 6 months and no response.
Completely dead. I struck a handful several times from 3 different guns and only one fired! Never again.

Happy to report all of the 333's that I fired were good! No duds. Pretty dirty, but most 22lr ammo is. Going back to CT to buy the remaining two boxes if they're still there.
My Savage BTVSS eats anything. :)

Hmm, I have been using the 555 stuff in my M&P 22 pistol with no issues. The odd fail to fire but no more than the Federal I run in my 10-22. No stuck cases.............. yet (knocks on wood).

why in the hell would someone bother to ship 22 components from off shore and assemble them here?- if u saw the way 22 is manufactured, you'd see the light- that's just PLAIN STUPID
