Any one remember when Winchester made ammo in canada. Yep they did believe it or not
I cannot recall the year they closed but bought 1000's at the time of new 20ga hulls at an action and just a few left

1979 or 80 I believe 3macs . seems to me it was the start of the new year that the plant ceased production .

I still have some of those 20gauge AA mine were primed Also think 1980 . I think they cost $10 a bag ?

A new ammunition plant was built in 1962 and eight years later in 1970, a modern, efficient, new arms plant and offices were completed.

Winchester Canada in Cobourg is closing at the beginning of the new year. The assembly and manufacture of guns, rifles and ammunition presently employs about 300 people in a town of 11,000.

I still have some older Winchester ammunition that was made in Canada.Seems to me there is an old box or two or made in Canada Remington ammunition if I remember as well.12 gauge if I remember.

The Dominion Cartridge Company made some fine ammunition. Imperial, Maxum, Cannuck. I still have quite a bit of it. Roll top paper, crimp top paper and some later plastic shells. 12, 16, 20 & 410. I was under the impression they were forced out of business with the radical gun hating lefties of the day. That's about as polite as I can say it.

I remember talking to some gun shop owners in about 1984. The quality control of the famous Imperial shot shell cartridges by IVI was in decline. All of IVI's loading equipment was aging and hey did not seem too be in a hurry to upgrade it. One old shop owner opened a box of "Special Long Range" 12 gauge cartridges and showed me the very large differences in case head diameters. He also said he had a lot of returned "duds" by customers. I do remember having lots of duds in .22 rimfire ammo from IVI in the early 1980's. Despite a grand history of cartridge making in Canada CIL IVI just reached a point where other financial endeavors were more favorable. Now despite all that I have said I still buy every box of Imperial ammo I see at gun shows. I guess I am a sucker for nostalgia.
