See if you can find a manual for the Savage 64 that is still being made. They are very similar. You might try the Savage website.

Once the stock is off,and the trigger mechanism and mag well are removed ( one long threaded stud and 2 screws) the octagon long nut can be removed . This releases the "u" clip and the barrel slips out of the action. Warning...do not twist the barrel too much or you will bend or break the ejector. once the pressure is off the action, the firing mechanism( bolt) slips forward and you remove the bolt assembly by pulling the cocking button out. the action should slide out the open end of the receiver allowing you to clean thoroughly. quite simple really. reassembly is a reversal of removal.
