Winchester Deer Season XP Ammo

I paid $26.99 for the "new stock" grey box .30-06 ammo I mentioned.

Going off a bit on a tangent. SAIL stores in the GTA has that for $21.99. I had picked up a box last week to test a CZ550 in .30-06 ..... the rifle shot under an inch at 100 yards with the ammo. From an accuracy perspective, appears this ordinary type ammo performs very well out of CZ rifles. I also tried the ammo in another CZ550 rifle, a .270 Win .... same accuracy. Terminal performance question (for me) is still up in the air.

I had noted the XP ammo on the shelves while I was at the store ..... will try that out this weekend in both rifles if I can.

Thanks Ahmed, good accuracy and that's a great price for it.

The real performance will only come with time on game. The .30-06 will kill a whitetail with nearly any load combo, even if we turn the bullet around with the base forward lol.:p

It's nice to see the ammo makers jockeying for a new bullet market share, and it's the old economy bullet market lol.

I wonder how this stuff compares to Hornady's American White Tail which uses the traditional interlock bullet.

Reviews of this bullet say it comes apart really quickly which can be a downside if you're stuck picking bits of jacket and core out of your burgers.

If it comes apart to quickly then the American white tail ammo may will be superior, unless the interlock nowadays doesn't live up to it's reputation as a good expander and holding together. That's a brand I should give a try as well, similar priced I believe?

Winchester tried this before, recently, with the Powermax ammo. It was marketed as a rapid expandion bonded deer bullet. I was disappointed in its performance on game, although it was extremely accurate
I doubt it's revolutionary, it's just nice to see ammo makers tending to the average Joe market again, trying to put some new life into old standards and keep the price reasonable.

Hmm,..this is interesting. I bought the bonded PowerMax for my M-14 for a few winter walk and call on Coyote due to its protected hollow point which would feed in my mind like FMJ through auto loaders. It was accurate and reliable. Never put it into anything so no results.
How was it poor performing? Do you think they may be trying to correct the powermax with the DS ammo??

I load for everything now, but when I ran factory it was always Rem Express Core-Loct....cheap and accurate.
This new Win Deer Ammo seems more like a marketing scam then any real performance upgrade.

$28 at basspro and wholesale from what I've seen.

The interlock's reputation for holding together made me buy the white tail over the xp

Wholesale in Calgary has it in lots of Calibers. Wolverine had some in 270 and 300 win mag I think. I bought some in YYC for 308. $33.99 a box. Will shoot it tomorrow and let you know how it groups.

It failed to exit from a very small deer. Really disappointing for a supposed "bonded bullet".
