winchester defender

I slicked my action, it will fully eject spent casing. Never ever has it ejected a live round, that is shooter that needs to learn how to use a pump shotgun.

Rather ridiculous remark if you ask me, having many pump shotguns myself, and many others that use nothing but pumps with the same opinion and observations as myself. A decent pump action shotgun should not open the action upon firing, that's what the shooter is supposed to do. Pull trigger, pull pump action rearward ejecting spent hull, push forward chambering a fresh round. Maybe the defender takes some time to get used to, or different set of skills, in my opinion the defender does not work like a pump action should. But claiming many people with hundreds of thousands of rounds under their belt with pump shotguns need to learn how to use a pump because of a design flaw in one model of shotgun is just plain silly and arrogant.

A standard pump shotgun should be able to be fired with one hand, and the action should remain closed. If the shooter must check to see if the action ejected the hull and started to chamber another round or not each time he fires, it is not something that can be depended on for anything other than amusement.

I understand that my opinion differs greatly from others in this thread, and will now step aside to prevent this turning into a locked thread due to emotional responses.

After reading a few comments here I hesitated to post. I bought my Defender back in 1982. I've lost count of the hundreds of miles walked with it, and the hundreds of slugs, OO and the typical miscellaneous shotshells put through it. Old corroded Imperials, new Winchester ammo doesn't matter mine shoots it all and I've never had an issue. She's a never sell.

That"s my gun you got there buddy!!!:p:p Oh well, ..........I had one like it and traded it on a Winchester 94 Wrangler when the new 870 showed up circa 1986. Nothing in a pump ever shouldered like those defenders on grouse close up in my mind. They were really light to carry as well, unlike an 870SP..
