Winchester Extreme Weather Stainless Steel

Just came around to this now:

Buy any EW M70 and love it. Dont sell it

I have the blues now
Most accurate, refined rifle I ever owned and bone stock.

Does anyone know who is the distributor for Winchester in Canada ?
Thanks

Forget about finding one in Canada. They are here but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

Go on irunguns us site and scroll through the Winchester stuff. There is several calibers of the Extreme Weather available.

I bought a Model 70 Classic Stainless in 300wsm many years ago and more or less forgot about it until I saw this thread.
I put one box of ammo through it before I bought my first 45-70 and went head first into straight case mania.
Might haveta dig er out...will be like buying a new rifle without spending the cash!

Good thread !! :p

I couldn't find any extreme weather model 70 locally. The Mcadam Gun Dealer in NB ordered me one in from the USA then shipped it right to my door. I assume they could find a .264WM if you asked nicely and paid enough. All my business was conducted over the phone and I was very impressed at how well they treated me. I was thinking about how sweet a model 70 in the super grade maple in .264 WM would be now that I have the .270 in the extreme weather. Gotta have something that makes you happy while you're holding it in your stand/blind or stalking. Browning owns Winchester now so any Browning dealer can order one in from my understanding.

I had one for awhile,in 300 win mag. I bought it because I just loved the look of it. I didn't really handle one before I purchased mine and the one I bought I barely handled in the store which was a big mistake. Turns out it fit me terribly and I just found it miserable to shoot. I ended up installing a muzzle brake which was an even bigger mistake. Ended up missing a nice bull moose with it and sold it here for real cheap. For whatever reason, noone wanted it. So aside from looking pretty..the stock was a poor fit and I also didn't like the mag release button on the outside of the bottom plate,I much prefer the Ruger all weather where its inside the trigger guard. Maybe its just because of the terrain I hunt and how much bush I crawl through but I was always scared of getting it caught and dumping the mag.

I just bought one from here last week in 3006 . Will report back once I hit the range . Coming from Tikka T3 light and Howa HS Precision. Prefer a little extra weight for recoil purposes.
Update, all I can say is Wow. Shipped to me with the scope on, took a few shots at 100 yards, dead on. Went out to 500 yards still very accurate.
The only drawback for me on these rifles is the mag conversion is very expensive, $400 ish . If you like the hinge foot plate , this is a non issue .

Just bumping this post up again as I’m wanting to know if indeed the Winchester Model Extreme Weather in Short Action has a less chubby B&C stock in a 2020/2021 manufacture year ?
Thanks !

I have owned 2 FN Win70 EW's, both made in South Carolina USA, in 2010 and 2011, one in .270, the other in 7mm08
For production rifles, in terms of fit and finish, both are crafted to a very high standard.

There is one (perhaps significant) difference:
Although several owners have complained about their EW's in .30-06 and .300mags having a "thick clubby stock" (compared to a McMillan)
the B&C composite stock of the short-action 7mm08 feels much slimmer than the long-action .270
(and I'm not alone in that assessment - several on the 'Fire' agree)

The weight of the EW is exactly the same as the M70 Featherweight, which is not nearly as light as say a Kimber Montana,
but IMO is just right for everything except what Montana's forte is, that is, carrying all day climbing mountains

My verdict:
For a general purpose hunting rifle, one that is little affected by cold wet weather
the M70 EW is a fine rifle and, at its current price point, represents excellent value for money.
And in a short-action, its B&C stock leaves little to be desired

My 2017 (Browning in Portugal) 264 doesn't feel like a club. Compared to a new B&C M40 stock it is way thinner in the pistol grip. But thicker than a Ruger wood Hawkeye stock.

As for the forearm it is thicker than the Ruger. Not by much. The Ruger has a thin forearm to begin with in my opinion.

Depends how big your hands are I guess.

Curious if anyone owned the stainless synthetic models with the integral muzzle brake? A few on an auction docket, look they are CRF but not sure, would love to know.
