My brother has a Winchester that needs repairs. Who is the go-to person? Any specialists? He sent it to a guy that was supposed to know but it came back with stripped screws and the blueing all taken off. Now he just wants the right guy to repair it. My brother is not hard to deal with. He never even complained about how the finish on his nearly new rifle was wrecked. The problem wasn't repaired but he didn't want to go back... Thanks!

The hell with installing screw it is not supposed to be there , what a Bubba job!
For what that new style on used market is worth find a good Pre 64 model and scrap that one or sell for parts

I think your brother got pulled the old switcheroo on him...
No way the gun I'm looking at has around 50 rounds...
He got a$$ raped. Name those thieves and tell your brother to check the serial #, HE'S RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OTHER RIFLE!

Now he skins his knuckle on the over-size screw when loading.

What is the depression with the button in it top left - looks like possibly a cross bolt safety?? I'm no expert (by a long shot) but have not seen that on a Winchester before.

It is a Winchester and not a licensed copy?

What was/is the original issue?

I agree with others, that is pretty used looking for only 50 shots.

also I think (**think**) that extra screw is in the hole for the screw that holds the cartridge guide in place .. it's supposed to be installed from the INSIDE of the receiver. (if that is what I think it is)

What you see is a 90s AE Win 94 (same thing but not official 1894, name was dropped many years ago). That is the crossbolt safety. The protruding screw is the for the cartridge guide which is correct on post 64's which were screwed from the outside but should not be protruding that far. That job really sucks....so-called smith should be paying for the rifle repairs.

The guy that did that is not a gunsmith. A Shop will not do such a job.
This is bubba calling himself a gunsmith. This is butchering and a very sh##ty job.
I just hope ypur brother did not pay that guy..it should be the other way around for mess like this.

Yep, exactly.

How many times have I heard about real gunsmiths being handed guns that were f*cked up by"the guy down the road that knows a bit about guns".

I once saw a Winchester 1400 shotgun come into a gun shop that some "gunsmith" had ground off all the locking lugs on the bolt because it was jamming.

I suspect that that is an expedient repair to a gun-screw threaded part that the dude didn't want to source the proper screw so drilled & tapped a common machine screw thread...probably needs more than just the proper screw now for a correct repair.

Thanks for all the replies! My brother was quite distraught but wants to move on. No one has a gunsmith who specializes in levers? Would Rustywood be alright?
