FYI - http://www.winchester.com/library/news/Pages/s22lrt-recall.aspx

Olin Corporation, through its Winchester Division, is recalling two (2) lots of M*22™ 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Black Copper Plated Round Nose rimfire ammunition.

Symbol Number: S22LRT
Lot Numbers: GD42L and GD52L

Winchester has determined the above lots of 22 Long Rifle rimfire ammunition may contain double powder charges. Ammunition with double powder charges may subject the shooter or bystanders to a risk of serious personal injury and/or death, or cause firearm damage, rendering the firearm inoperable.

I don't know if this applies to any of this ammo in Canada. However, better to be safe than sorry.

I was just coming here to post this as well. I do have a box that says 3GD42L but I cannot find the symbol number. They are looking for GD42L, not sure what the 3 is in front of it but I may just have to call the toll free number tomorrow.

Edit. To add to this I did find the symbol number and it is S22LRT. Must phone to ask if the 3 before the rest of it means anything.

Great, I've got a box of the defective ammo. Called Winchester to confirm and sure enough it has to go back. A bit of a hassle but better then damaging a gun or worse, injuring myself or someone else. They said they would send coupons to replace the defective ones.

What province are you in?

Yeah, I called winchester and they said it needs to be returned. I asked how I would be reimbursed for the inconveniece and they said I would receive vouchers in the mail to replace them once the ammo was returned.

I'm sure they'll be fair. Last year, I had a couple bad rounds of 9mm Winchester white box. They paid for me to ship them back, and sent me $40 in coupons for the trouble.

Depending on the gun I wouldn't expect a 22LR double charge to do any damage, I know a 22LR case head failure doesnt'.

I wouldn't be soo quick to assume that! You do know what pressure 22LR can run at don't you? If not look it up at SAAMI's website and compare it to some other rounds. In a cartridge as small as the 22 a double charge can raise pressures a tremendous amount. Better safe than sorry!
