recently came into a winchester m1 carbine ser#1809***.
it has a push button safety , 'I' inlett in the stock for the sling & no bayonett lug.
the rear sight was cut into a 'U' shape & glued into place:eek:

anyone familiar with the history of these that can tell me what rear sight i should have.?
i already drifted out the old butchered one.
thanks...

Should have the two position "L" aperture type. Originals are scarce and pricey. Repros are out there cheaper.

M1 Carbine

I have a Winchester M1 carbine but the rear sight is the later version with the ramp type elevation, they come with different parts as they were probably overhauled more than once in there service life. I really like mine even if it is not all 100% original, value is in the eye of the beholder.

oopps...misread the ser#(old eyes) should read 1309*** & WINCHESTER is printed in caps.
i think that makes it a ww11 production gun.
perhaps someone more familiar with us carbines can give me a little history lesson:)

they ONLY made m1 carbine durning ww2 6million or so of them

after japan surrendered they cancelled all contracts

late 45 was m2 carbines only

check each and every part for marks and list them here

your serial is the second batch assigned to winchester

Ahh yes World War Eleven. Who ever would have suspected they would revert back to World War Two guns in that war.

Bless all those who fought so valiantly against the evil Australian Empire.
