Here's a Winchester Model 70 (1954) .300 Holland&Holland. Got this last year and haven't showed it off until now. This rifle has produced some sub MOA groups from the bench for me (when I do my part). Did take it to Alberta for Elk/deer hunt last year, but only had one day without rain so my stainless/synthetic Remington got pressed into service. Hope you guys enjoy the pics and I welcome your comments.

Pre '64 Mod.70 - .300H&H

I have the same gun and it's a keeper. The sub MOA groups do happen. But what really is nice is the groups are very consistent right out to 300 meters. A few years ago I showed up at a shoot with the old girl and held my own with this rifle. Basically the shoot was legal 'hunting' caliber only, no heavy barrels and combined scope/rifle weight of under 10lbs. I knew it was capable of good groups at 200/300 meters, but had no idea how it compared to everyone else's hunting rifles. It pulled ahead where it really mattered - 1.39" 5 shot group @ 300 meters! The best I've done with a hunting rifle on paper @ 300m. My .300H&H likes Sierra MatchKing 200 gr. bullets with 64 grs. of IMR 4350. Have worked up loads as well using 180 & 190's and tried IMR 4831 as well as several other varietys of powders and it doesn't really matter - it just shoots awesome whatever loads that I've fed it so far (have Berger 210's to try). Now there is some recoil with her (my loads/heavy bullets, poor recoil pad), so each time I take her out I tell myself it's o.k. a little recoil is just a reminder that I am shooting a real legend and it's worth every bruise. My fifty+ yr. old gun is all original and looks as good as yours !!

classy gun, classic cartridge

I have a m70 300h&h as well, though a little newer model

mine was working good with 168gr amax last year, and with 180gr partitions. would like to get a good all around hunting load worked up for it this fall
animals tremble when they know the H&H is lurking

I've seen this rifle in person & the pics don't do it justice. It's a very, very nice rifle. Like the quick release rings, too.........

Classic rifle in a classic caliber....but that's also a classic wooden box that you use for a gun craddle. It's all good. :)

I have a 1961 that is similar. Metal and bore on mine is excellent but the stock is beat up and should likely be restored. It is also an MOA rifle and especially likes 180 grain bullets and 4350 powder. I have a 1953 30-06 in similar condition to your 300--I am toying with the idea of getting it bored out to .35 whelen--I figgure they would make a nice pair.

I also have an M-70 classic that was converted from 30-06 to 300 H and H--it is also an MOA rifle with 180's and 190's.

I have had two other 300 H & H rifles and they both shot very well also.

It may be old but there are no flies on it.
