I'm considering a Winchester Model 70 Coyote Light (in .308). I had a chance to handle one the other day (300WSM) and it seems like a well built rifle. Does anyone have first hand experience with this rifle? any thoughts?

Thanks!

kinda ugly (with the vented forend), but if they shoot like my new m70 Stealth in 308, should be a fantastic rifle

^ five rounds @ 100m with the first handload I threw together, no real tweaking. No doubt the flyer was me!

I've got one in 300 WSM, off the bench it always puts the first two 180 grain Winchester XP3's into .3 - .4 of an inch. If you've already had one in your hands you know how they look and feel and that only gets better with each time you take it out to the field, or the bench. A well built rifle that looks good and shoots straight like a Winchester should.

My brother has one, stock is good quality, nice stainless fluted barrel. Not to heavy to pack around and the accuracy is really impressive. we just worked on some handloads and it really liked varget and IMR 4064. when you get it pm me any I'll send you a recipe that worked for him. He loves his in .308.

Thanks for the responses. And positive ones at that!

Are there any negatives for you guys?

On the one I handled the bolt seemed a little "sloppy", when I opened it. With the breech closed however, there was no issue and the action seemed smooth and tight.

Is there much noticeable difference in weight between the coyote lite and the all weather extreme?

The coyote lite is about 1 lb heavier than the extreme weather version. It has a medium-heavy barrel, so the weight is all out front.

Extreme SS or Stealth ... the new mfg'ed Winchester Model 70's are truly beautiful. I've owned many, many Model 70's since 1981 and this new production versions are top shelf for the money.

I held my buddy's Model 70 Extreme Stainless that he bought from Epps (in .308) and it handles so nicely and groups 3 shots into a nickel. Good enough for the hunting we do. The machine work is so pretty and well finished. Sure beats the Model 70's from over 5 years ago, and I'm a push feed lover. :D

I don't want to hijack this thread from the OP, but my Stealth is one fine (2010 Production) Winchester! ;)

I have a 22-250 and a 243. Both show good accuracy and cycle well. The triggers are pretty good, but I'm not really sold on the wide front stock.

I ordered the Coyote Light in .308 this past week. When it comes, I'll post more info. It seems that the consensus on the new M70s is "thumbs up" and not model specific. Scope shopping time!
