I'm curious to find out from those of you who have handled both the new 2008+ FN Winchester M70s and the old ones from pre-64, how the new ones compare to the old in:

- Overall quality - fit and finish
- Accuracy
- Niceness of the wood

I had good luck with the 3 Fn Mod 70 that I've owned they are well made and accurate(2 of them are excellent shooter and the other one is a good shooter). Can't speak about the older one.

I have a pre'64 M70 Fwt.
Overall, I like it, but as I go through it I find things that explain why there were as many Gunsmiths around as there were.

Only looked at the FN ones in the stores, not stripped them down to look.

Given the quality that is capable of being produced on modern machine tools, vs. the stuff Winchester was using pre '64, I'd suggest that unless you have a strong and compelling reason to buy a old gun, buy the new one.

Wood's a crapshoot. You get what is in front of you. Some days that factory (both new and old) had nice wood, sometimes not so much.

Cheers
