I had one of these that I bought new in 1979 and used for a few years before parting with it. It was a XTR in .30-06
Lately I've been thinking of getting another push feed since the older guns are usually priced reasonably.

I'm not interested in a pre '64 as they're too expensive and the newer CRF rifles are without sights.
I'm in the bush and most shots are not far so I prefer irons, specifically a receiver sight.
Much nicer to carry and pack around.

Anyone shooting a pushfeed M70 and are you happy with it?
Looking forward to hearing from anyone with one, thanks.

I like the quality of the older model 70’s. The extractor is irrelevant to me and, as you mentioned, the push feed rifles are great value.

Once upon a time, I had a pre-64 Winchester. I owned it before all the hype and stupid silly prices. It was a very decent rifle, but to be honest, it wasn't something I coveted all that much. It went down the road as I wasn't a fan of 270. I think it was a 1959 production. The Brno 21's with the M98 SR action got all my CRF attention. As for pushfeeds, not a single one I owned ever failed me in the field. My current PF favourites are the CZ 557 and Tikka T3--smooth and accurate!

I believe the newer push feeds are okay but I had one from 1978 and found the cast steel trigger and sear to be a problem because the cast steel edge on trigger and sear, after some use, would round off and a quick push off with the safety the gun would sometimes fire on it's own. I didn't care for the stock either compared to the pre-64 NRA stock.

Yeah, I have a few 70 pushfeeds in various calibers, hunt with one or two of 'em. I don't think I'll ever part with 'em to be honest, they would cost 3x as much to replace

I had an early 90's stainless push feed 270 I gave to my son in law. I now have a crf in 30 06. I prefer the push feed. I don't see how the crf is any better. They both work perfect In any attitude and I didn't have to replace my push feed trigger like I did my newer trigger. In stock form the push feed was simpler and better. Both seemed well made and accurate

Had my mid 80’s Model 70 in 30-06 since 1990. Gets my deer every year, the odd moose, almost always has been one shot and done including this year. Never had a single issue with it. Doubt I’ll ever part with it.

I have 3 push feeds and one newer model. No complaints at all. I put the hi viz iron sights on the one without a scope and they're great, easy accurate offhand shots what more do you want.

I bought a new Win 70 XTR "push feed" in 1977 in 308 Win - our son still uses it. After some years, the tip of the "bolt sleeve lock" had worn, and would no longer dependably hold the "bolt sleeve" in place when the bolt was opened - that "sleeve" would flop to the left (rotate counterclockwise) and you could not close the bolt without rotating that bolt sleeve back into position. At the time, I could not find a replacement part from Winchester - I think the one in there now was for a Marlin bolt action rifle. I have not had that happen on any of the various Mauser rifles here - the mechanism on that XTR appears the same on a made-in-1955 Win 70 in 30-06, and a made-in-1983 Sporter Magnum in 338 Win Mag - but those two have not yet failed on me.

Ha! "have not yet failed" - probably because I have never fired the 1955, and, except to verify the scope, I have not used the 338 Win Mag, since I got my 9.3x62. Whereas that 308 Win had seen hundreds, if not thousands, of rounds, when it was my only big game rifle. With that 308 Win, was likely many dozens of rounds fired at crows, jack rabbits, paper targets - "targets of opportunity" - all year round, for every shot at a deer, during hunting season.

I've had several 1970 something to 1980 something M70's and they have all been good rifles. The only problem I recall having with one was the extractor failed and I had a new spring installed and the problem went away. The rifle with the extractor problem was a 264 mag that I shot almost daily and it lived in the truck cab for years. I eventually wore out the bore on it so I had it rebored to .308 (300 win mag) and that rifle is still in service today albeit not daily service.

Great guns! And totally under-rated. I prefer these to Rem 700's. I recently bought a barely used 1991 Winchester Model 70 Ranger 30'06 for $600. Blueing was perfect! Absolutely no wear. I parted it out for the action and had KS Arms spin on a new barrel in 35 Whelen. Paired it with an HS Precision stock. Near perfection.

Great info guys and the pictures are especially nice to see.
Only one person so far that's not a fan which is ok, personal preference varies.

In my early years of hunting i bought a winchester 670a in 30-06 with a serviceable weaver scope for 350$. I really enjoyed shooting that rifle, the quality was great for a budget rifle. Loved the blonde birch wood it was sporting.

I'm a fan

I had a Win 70 XTR push feed in .30-06 for many years.

It was an accurate rifle. I liked it had a 24" barrel & iron sites. Regret trading it.
