WINCHESTER M71 .......CARVED BUTT AND FOREND W/PICTURES

I checked this model 71 at a recent gun show and was intrigued by the carved butt stock and fore-end. I remember some years ago there were about 5 firearms for sale on the exchange here that had identical style and like carvings. I'm thinking this one was done by the same carver. If memory serves me correct I think this fellow was from the East coast of Canada. Maybe someone can elaborate and give me more details, I'm interested and it's part of the rifles story. Don't worry I don't get bored with details!

I think the purist Winchester collector might stay away due to the originality being compromised but I'm kinda liking the "flavor" of this one. If there is a local (Canadian) following for this fellows work I'd like to hear about it, that might offset the alterations made in terms of value.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Note- I edited the picture that would normally show the rifles serial number and erased it. Yes the serial number is on the rifle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you like it, hopefully we get some more light shed on it. The D.O.M is on the hang tag, it's a 1937.

My grandfather hunted with a model 71 for years and I killed my first whitetail with it. Crying shame someone butchered that one. That would be an expensive fix to correct.

it's not a collector grade gun only about 25% bluing and collector gun on gun nutz is a different
meaning to each person who uses the term collecting guns to simply have a gun does not give value to guns searching out different variations of models that are scarce ands value
