Just picked up this M94 Carbine that was issued to the City of Toronto, it came with an old leather scabbard that has some interesting markings on it. I'm looking for some more info for both, needless to say google hasn't been much of a help.

The rifle was manufactured in 1913 and I understand that there were a number of these rifles that were purchased in a block and issued wherever the need be. The little info available was these were issued to prison guards, various law enforcement agencies and possibly had some role in connection purposes with the war effort in whatever capacity that was . Is anyone aware of more detailed info about these particular rifles?

This one is in very nice original shape, as is the bore. The wood and metal looks to have been left unaltered from it's original state so I'm happy about that. Obviously since it left the factory the rear Lyman tang site was added as well as the front sight but that's easily rectified and I doubt these were added while in service. The only bad is the chip on the top of the butt by the rack number.

Hope you can help me learn more about the rifle and scabbard.

Thanks

Hello,

I am the Winchester Arms Collectors Association (WACA) Historian, and for the past 20-years, I have been surveying & documenting all of the Model 1894 (94) firearms I can find in the 354000 - 2600011 serial number range. Within that range, I have thus far documented a total of (14) Model 1894 SRCs with the "City of Toronto" marking on the butt stock. Thus far, all of them have been in the 688500 - 701190 serial number range. The corresponding dates of manufacture span October 1914 - November 1914.

If you can provide me with the complete serial number on your SRC, I can provide you with the exact date that it was manufactured.

Regards,

Per the original Winchester records, your Model 1894 SRC was manufactured October 19th, 1914. It is now the 15th City of Toronto Model 1894 SRC I have documented in the research survey.

For those who are interested, I also have a detailed survey of the WW II PCMR Winchester Carbines (644 of the 2,500 documented this far), and the DCP marked WW I Model 1894 Carbines (just 42 of the 5,000). For the PCMR Carbines, I also have the specific Ranger's name and service number for approximately (340) of the guns that were issued. If you have a PCMR marked Model 94 or Model 64, I would appreciate hearing from you. I can be contacted via email or on the WACA website - https://winchestercollector.org/forum/

Thanks all for your input about this rifle. I was asked to provide the rack number of this rifle as well as the stamping on the vintage scabbard. So upon closer inspection the rack # is 196.
The stamping on the scabbard reveals..... a picture of an elephant with a saddle on and the following "THE SCHOELLKOPF CO. ,DALLAS USA TEXAS, FAMOUS JUMBO BRAND".
