Winchester Mod 70 75th Anniversary 30-06. NEW DEVELOPMENTS..PICS ARE UP

Out of the special edition M70s I have to say that the Jack O'Connor Custom Tribute is my choice. But, I would still be inclined to spend that kind of money on something else. Like a Cooper with some options.

Culling guns? Just not in my genetic make up, I can think of an iron clad reason for every one of them, (like that's the only one I got with that serial number) and possibly 40 or 50 more. :D

You don't want to cull guns, you want get a "Culling gun". Something that you can rip 20-30 shots out of as fast as you can work the bolt, not burn yourself too bad and still be able to see though the scope. It also needs to shoot and hold zero when hot, have high capacity detachable mags available, and not be an autoloader. It might be a 30-06, it probably will be a Remington.

Dogleg - why not a Sauer 303 Classic XT? I have read excellent review with respect to accuracy - sub-MOA - and it is available with a 5 round detachable magazine ("only" 4 with the 9.3x62). The trigger is factory set at just over 2.75lbs, which is just right imo.

Well guys new development.................My wife bought it for me for my birthday in 10 days. I'm picking it up this am and will post pics this aft.

Of course she put it on my credit card, but who cares that's all I would have done anyway.

I think this is going to be a GREAT day !!!!!!!!

Now I need mounts and an appropriate scope, HHHMMMMMMM.............Leupold 2.5-8 comes to mind.....maybe 2-7 or 1.5-6 would be a good choice.......nothing wrong with a 3-9. Nothing wrong with a fixed 6X on an '06 either.

Throw out any suggestions you may have or combos that have worked real good for you in the past on your '06s. I'm a scope fudd and will only consider Leupold or Zeiss.

I'm having a GOOD DAY NOW.

c-fmbi - have you checked out the new VX6? I am very happy with mine and everybody who has looked through it has been impressed. Too bad you are a scope fudd though, because Wolverine has some fine deals on Schmidt & Bender scopes.

I have never even looked through one but they have a stellar reputation, might be convinced. What I meant by that is I don't want any Redfield, Weaver, Bushnell, Nikon, Simmons, Night Force, Vortex etc. etc. etc.....

I've got a 2.5-8 on one, a 3.5-10 with B&C on another, a 3.5-10 CDs on a third, and a 2X Nikon scout scope on the last 30-06. I'd go with a 3.5-10 VX3 with CDS if you want to play at longer distances, and a B&C for more of a rough use general hunting scope. I used the CDS culling, but the ranges were typically short enough that feature wasn't needed more than a few times. Lots of fun on 100-600 yard plates with my Cooper though.

I mounted a VX-III 3.5x10 on mine, with Leupold extention mounts to give me maximum reward scope placement. I originally tried a 2.5x8 but it is a shorter tubed scope and I could not get the scope mounted far enough back to suit me. Depends on your physical build and how you mount and hold your rifle but thats my experience on the matter. I own 2 of the VXIII 3.5x10's and have been very pleased with them.

Very nice birthday gift, technically I suppose Santa will be giving you a scope and a new case for it for Christmas !!!

The VX-3s are not comparable to the VX6; the latter is just that much nicer. If you are open to other higher end scopes then you really should check out the deals Wolverine has going now. Plain Sight Solutions also has some nice deals on the Z3 Swarovskis, although I would (and did) go with a VX6 in that price range.

Here's yet another vote for a vx3 3.5-10x, which is exactly what's mounted on my go-to '06 at the moment. In this case, though, it's an oddly big one -- the illuminated model with 30mm tube and 50mm objective. Yup, silly big. I ended up putting it on for a safari that included leopard, so the illuminated reticle and extra light gathering made sense. But somehow I just haven't been able to make myself take that scope off and replace it with something more compact like the vari-X III 2.5-8x that used to live there. There's just something about the reticle that they put in the larger scope that really brings out better results in my shooting. If I could, I'd put that reticle in every hunting scope I own...

OK guys heres the photos, go get plastic covers for your key boards right now, she's a drooler, bigtime.

The second rifle in the last photos is my 340 Wby ia a sort of matching super grade Mod 70

Douglas; Very fine looking rifle, indeed!!
I am a sucker for nice lumber on a rifle, and that one has it.

I would buy and mount one of those very bright Leupold 6x42's on it, and never look back.
Actually I have a 30-06 with just that glass on it. [a model 700 Remington, though!]

Let us know how it shoots once you get it up and running.

Regards, Eagleye.

X2.:). I've always had a weakness for blued steel and nicely figured wood.
