I have the opportunity to purchase a new factory stock for my Winchester modle 70 classic feather weight in 300 wsm. It is an internet deal I don't want to pass up. The seller is asking if my gun has the one or two piece floor plate. I am not sure which one my gun has and its not obvious to look at. Can someone tell me which mine would be?

Thanks JTA

JTA: The two piece bottom metal uses 3 screws. Open the floor plate and look for the third one at the forward end of the trigger guard. It will be apparent to you when you examine it if the trigger guard is a separate piece from the floor plate and its hinge or if it is one piece from front to back with the floor plate hinged into that.

Thanks Stocker
It looks like mine is a two piece. If both stocks are for a short action does it matter? When I look at replacement stocks on the internet (eg. Boyds Gun Stocks) it only specifies short and long action. Nothing is mentioned about the flour plate or trigger guard assembly.

JTA: it may matter but I am uncertain, depending on what bottom metal the stock is actually inletted for (Winchester 1 piece or after market 1 piece which may vary). If the stock you are getting is for one piece the inletting may be too large for the two piece as the one piece is larger in the area of the magazine box in the couple I have actually seen, to accomodate the framing around the magazine box. I suspect most firms making replacement stocks inlet for two piece and the customer removes wood to accomodate 1 piece. Works that way but not necessarily the other.
