So i picked up a Winchester Ranger in 30-06 today and overall its a really nice older gun. I am wondering what peoples feelings on these particular models are and how hard a new stock would be to find , or if people prefer the blind magazine and would just toss on a new boyds if looking to change the stock.

Thanks for the reply ShrtRnd . I think the rifle I got is going to be a decent gun as I work with the guy who i got it from and he was very upfront about not using it much . I would say the bolt has been run quite a bit due to the blind magazine and blueing wear on the bolt handle but otherwise the rest of the gun is very decent. it has the blue worn off the muzzle from time spent inn a case and the stock has a small hairline crack by the one action screw but when i took it apart theres no rust under the barrel and it appears to have been well looked after. I was mostly curious if people have changed the stocks on these and if so did they go to a floor plate orstick to the blind magazine.

That was my first rifle I bought new. The Ranger was a decent low budget M70. I put 6000 rounds through my 30-06. The barrel was a "little worn" by the end.

Popped off 6 rounds with the rifle tonight and it functioned very smoothly. Windage was prefect but the poi was about 4 inches high at 100 yards with 168 grain factory loads. I am thinking my 190 grain hand loads should be a bit closer to zero.

It's certainly a hunting rifle , but 3 inches high seems a bit much to me . 1.5 maybe more where I am accustomed to but I guess it's still well within hunting accuracy
