because it is a semi-auto your fired brass will have to be resized with small base dies . I would use new winchester brass to start with and follow any of the reloader books. you will find that new ammo is quite expensive. The up side is that you have a great short action shell with great ballistics.
Just what do you want?? an exact load...all guns are different.
Potential accuracy is whatever you can get it to shoot.
I've got a bedded M-100 in 308 that'll do 1-1/2" if I do my part, my experience is an unbedded M-100 is a 2-1/2"-3" gun. There'll alway be some that'll do better & some that are worse. My suggestion is to use 150gn bullets of your choice & pick the load out of a reloading book that shows highest velocity then back it down 3gns from max. Not adviseable to push a auto-loading hunting gun to max!

As mentioned several times in this thread, the model 100 isn't particularly rare, but there are not many in 284.
If it's in minty shape, you should endeavour to keep it that way. Buying a replacement stock to play with is probably your best bet.
My 88 in 308 responded well to just a good cleaning, and doing a bit of sanding on the inside of the forearm.

You bed around the front screw but you have to relieve the pressure around the screw after. A little dab on the tang is all thats required.
If your 284 is in good shape & your not a collector I'd recommend selling it & useing the proceeds to buy one in 308. The 308 will do anything a 284 will do, & you don't have to worry about chaseing those odd, rarer & expensive 284 cases around the leaves

this gun came thru my hands about 17-18yrs ago. it was a gun my brotherinlaw knew about and I helped the fellow who first helped me get into reloading to buy it at that time it was $225 gun sling and a few shells.
My friend kept it for about 12 yrs and sold it to my Son for $250. He didnt do much with it until his wife wanted to go hunting to, so Keith asked me if I would instal a recoil pad and get dies,cases,bullets,etc. I found 3 boxes of Winchester 150gr at a corner store near here and bought a 100 cases,dies,bullets etc from Wolesale Sports. after Stephanie shot the gun she wanted a red dot scope mounted which we did and she has shot 4 deer with it since then
this year she missed a number of deer, the gun jammed , and the battery went dead in the red dot she lost all interest/confidence in the gun.
My son Keith sold the gun, scope, dies,30 winchester and 70 reloads and about 60 empties to me for $250
I would like to refinish the gun, mount a decent scope, and use it a few times, then put it away for the grandkids, or just refinish and sell the package complete and give the profit back to my Son.

Most 100s that have came thru my hands are in need of a good disassembly & cleaning.
Remove the forend screw, the Butt screw & rear trigger guard screw, pull the action back & lower it from stock.
Disassembly is quite straight foreward, after removeing the spring(1st) & gas tube, slide the action arms till the little 1/2 moon cut on the upper side of arms aligns with pin near front of reciever, the pin will slide right out & you can then slide the arms back till bolt comes out of reciever. That should be as far as you need to go for a thuro cleaning & re-lube.
