Hello I have inherited my fathers Winchester Model 100 but it has an issue.
He said that it had a trigger issue that was known and had to do with properly assembling the receiver to the stock but I have formed another opinion.

I found that the receiver and trigger assembly are not seating close enough together and causing the sear to not set properly locking the trigger and safety. When disassembled I can operate the action and trigger fine while clamping everything together with my off hand but it seems clear, the receiver is riding high after assembly and defeating the action and is not flush along the top of the stock plate and receiver.

The receiver nor the stock plate seem worn where they marry but you can tell the receiver is sitting high.

I am open to a quick fix but if there are any guru's that know the proper repair so I can plan it out that would be swell.

A quick fix...? It is a very complicated rifle and factory parts were discontinued about 50 years ago I think

Take it completely apart, inspect to see if there are any broken or missing parts. If there are try and find replacements...

If nothing is missing or broken, diagnose why it appears to be not assembled correctly... or assemble it correctly....

Good luck.

I have my grandfather's M100 and have disassembled/assembled many times over the 30 years I have had it. It's not as complicated as some are making out, but there is a a bit of a learning curve to doing it correctly.

If the bolt isn't placed into the carrier correctly it can cause issues. Not having the action completely pulled all the way to the rear can cause issues trying to seat it back into the stock too.

Here's a link to a PDF of the original manual (remove spaces between the www) https://w w w.indaginibalistiche.it/utlities/manuali/winchester_100_EN.pdf

There are also quite a few videos on youtube that show strip and assemble.

Did you completely disassemble the trigger assembly?

Did you know on the early production rifles there were 3 parts in that assembly that were not required...? Found that fact out in 1966.

Yeah, some rifles still have those parts installed, I've pulled a lot of them out over the years. IIRC there were 4 different extractors on those early models too.

Yes I have.

I am familiar with the early ones.

I find taking down and assembling my Mark 4 22/45 more difficult than the M100 and agree that if you're a competent man this is not difficult.
I don't have an issue assembling the receiver into the stock but are you saying that it has to bee completely pulled back or is it just as well if its enough to get it in? Have you had the trigger and safety lock on you before?
Thanks for the link for the manual and yes I have watch a few detailed full assembly vids.

Pull the action completely to the rear when placing it back into the stock and once its seated allow the bolt to go fully forward.

No I've never had an issue with the trigger/safety locking up on me.

Glad you got it sorted out.

I just looked in mine and those parts were removed, not sure when but before i got it.

I understand why guntech was questioning me.
