I recently aquired a Winchester model 100 from a fine CGN member. The question I have of the members is: does anyone remember the recal on the firing pins on these? Can I still contact Winchester to see if the rifle has been repaired? If it hasn't been repaired what next, can a local gunsmith do it? Anyhelp would be appreciated.

I believe the recall is still in effect and you should contact Winchester for details. Local gunsmiths can do it (I think that winchester would send them the parts and a set payment)

The problem was firing pin breakage which could leave a part of the firing pin jammed and protruding from the bolt face and setting off a cartridge before the bolt was locked.

I have done countless firing pins for the Winchester Recall and have pins on hand. I don't have the info right now as I am presently at work (on break). Send me a PM and I will try to get the info for you.
A call to the Winchester Firing Pin Recall number and giving them your serial #, will generally aid in telling you if your pin has been changed, without having to visually inspect the rifle by taking it apart.
Breakage and peening over of the back end in the bolt could cause the rifle to go full auto or causing a slam fire. If you have any doubts, put the rifle away until you can be absolutely sure of it's repair state.

I contacted Winchester two years ago, with a phone number from their website. A real person answers or calls you back. They want the old firing pin, the rifle serial number, and an address. A few weeks later a new firing pin and a check arrive in the mail. Very painless process. Replacing the firing pin is a simple DIY procedure.
