I've got a japan made winchester model 101 over under that may have something broken or too much dirt in the sear/firing pin mechanism.
I found an exploded parts drawing online, looks like there's a bunch of bits in there to make it work and that switch to change which barrel fires looks extra fun.
Have any of you opened one of these up, or a model similar? how much of a nightmare is it to get back together?(or apart for that matter?) any special tools or such required before I consider opening it to take a closer look? I'm hoping its not one of those things where you take out a screw and a dozen bits and springs fly everywhere...

thanks

The good thing is you are asking question before taking it apart not rushing in then having to take it to a smith to put it back together. Although there are a few shotguns that will shed parts if dissembled wrong they are mostly the semi auto kind. You should be fine removing the stock bolt with a very long screwdriver to get to the mechanism hopefully its just some dirt in the firing pin that you can remove without taking apart futher. If you have to take it apart and are not used to taking firearms apart a camara is a must and youtube is very helpfull as long as you know how to determin what videos are good and what are bad or potentialy dangerous.

Found some good videos on taking a citori apart, looks very similar and much easier and held together than what I was expecting. Hopefully just needs a good cleaning.
I might have time to dig into it tonight.

I replaced the firing pins on mine. Pretty simple job. I bet if you get the stock off, remove the firing pins and spray it down with remington action cleaner. Follow that with spraying it off with an air gun on a compressor that should clean it up nice. Lightly oil and put it back together. These probably just some dirt or something in there. I have a spare set of firing pins if need. Shoot me a PM and I can set u up.

I haven't done with a 101, but i have put semi actions in a ultrasonic cleaner bath for 10-20 min and they come out real nice and clean.
I sprayed the guts with a cleaner and dropped in a glass jar full of thinner, and put jar in the ultrasonic bath - then ultrasonic for 15 min - came out real clean. Lube it up and go shoot!

Well, turns out there's not much to these things, just unscrew the stock (long flat screw driver) and trigger guard screw and off she goes.
All looks good and its way cleaner than I expected, but all dry so I'll still give it a little eezox.

Only thing I see that I've no clue what the heck it is, is this little bent wire piece that's just dangling on the little dowel pin that is just ahead of the trigger. It looks like there's a little end broken on it but I've no clue what it is, or what it would be for. I don't see it on the parts lists of the model 101 or citori stuff either. It doesn't seem to have another end to it anywhere in there that I can see. It's just there on a little pin that appears to have no purpose other than hold it there. Anyone know?
