Winchester Model 101

I'd be interested to hear of design flaws in the old ones. I have 7 from 410 through to 12g and have never had an issue aside from firing pins being warn from use or the vent rib popping on my dedicated 20g bird gun 1/2 way up the barrel. Personally I'd stick to the old ones as my impression is they were far better built then those of now but to each their own. Miruko Japan built old 101s, also like at the Charles dalys model 500s which are also out of miruko Japan if you can locate one.

Same....I've had a few standard field grades over the years and one pigeon grade that I shot for 28 years and easily put 50,000 rounds through of which I would bet a solid 35% were waterfowl loads without so much as a hiccup before gifting it to a good friend this fall. They are well built and extremely durable. Hard to find that kind of quality today without breaking the bank.

Only 2 draw back I can think of with the "older" 101 is
1) the absence of removable chokes... if you wanted to use steel-shoots for waterfowls
2) the single trigger, as a prefer 1x per barrel instead of a selector

I have 101 XTR Lightweight 12Ga 26" barrels with 6 Standard Invector choke tubes I bought in 1986. An absolutely fine bird gun.

I dont know if OP ended up getting a gun yet but I went to the gun dealer in NB (mentioned by Redsoilreaper earlier) thinking I was gonna get 101 (newer model) as well.

Tried shouldering it along with many other options, end up spending way more than I had planned and got a used Citori 725 pro.

I love it with no regret... but my point here is, go in to any gun shot with good selection for you to try and shoulder it. No matter how well one particular gun is reviewed, if it does not feel good on you, it may not be for you.

Good luck
