Winchester model 12 12 gauge

I have spoken to my friend and he would like to keep the gun original so in effect I am looking for a rough Model 12 that I can cut down, clean and keep as a personal arm. Curious, what's the length of the magazine tube? Please offer any you might be looking to give to a young student interested in a shotgun!

I was thinking of parting with my Field Grade "takedown" version of the WIN Mod 12. 1935 production serial number, w/FULL choke and 28" barrel.

I see them selling on GunBroker and displayed on several Collector Firearm sites, ie. http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/show_inventory.php?catID=14&subcatID=184 in the US for over $650. in very good condition. As high as $2900. for a pre-64 Deluxe Trap gun in excellent condition.

Could the 200$-300$ price range be for a later model or non-takedown version? Sounds kind of low from my searches. What am I missing?

You guys know these are capable of slam firing like the Ithica 37s?

Go to Ellwood Epps and you have your choice of Model 12's for $200-$400 there is at least a half dozen of them . As far as the u.s price those guns never sell they are asking prices and sit on the forms for months. GO TO THE COMPLETED LISTING TO SEE WHAT THEY SELL FOR STUPID ASKING PRICES AND SOLD PRICES ARE 50%-60% apart.

Personally I couldn't bring myself to cut a model 12, they are a classic. It wouldn't matter how cheap I got it. Don't be misled by some of the prices on Gunbroker, as struff55 says, check out the selling prices.

Seems to be a good seller at Epps at those prices. I think he may be selling them too cheap. And those aren't in any special shape either.

I'm still miffed at the prices described on Collectors Firearms.

they are not being sold to cheap the fact of the matter is as I stated before nobody want them .there is only 20% of the buying and shooting shotgun market that even knows what a Model 12 is and what it repersents As far as investment grade guns which is not plain BBl field guns the market is very soft guys are keeping there wallets closed at this time.

Some of you guys talk about he model 12 like it had wings and can fly. There are tons of them in the racks and they cost diddly squat. Some of you "model 12 droolers" don't even own one... and what does that say? They're only a few hundred bucks and readily available, but "OH! Don't cut them down!" BS. I use mine more now that it is cut down with some iron sights on vs. before where it was only collecting dust.

What's a gun good for if you don't use it once in a while? Sure I wouldn't bubba a pristine high grade collectable model 12 pump. But a simple field gun? Have at it and don't even consider offending the model 12 so-called affectionados. This is the same dribble you here about pre 64 model 94's yet they're a dime a dozen as well. Any gun only worth few hundred bucks is just that; a few hundred bucks. Some folks spend that on a few restaurant meals and here it's some kind of heresy to alter an old gun. What a load of manure. (End rant.)

that is a very good rant Mr. Woodsman Like I said if I needed a Zombie gun it would be a Model 12 because it is the best made pump of all and I would not trust any of the others.

Woodsman, I am in full agreement, being a milsurp collector, there are guns I understand are WORTH keeping original, but when over 2 million are made and there are tonnes floating around for so reasonable a price, modification for use is perfectly sound in my books. Mind you, that's what guys in the 20's said about cutting down their No.I Mk.III Enfields, yet, still, look around. There are TONNES of No.4's, but "Oh no, it's British not Longbranch, so it's worth 100 dollars less" Total crock in my opinion. Value is merely established by market and demand of the people. There are guns out there that are so strong they almost cannot be blown apart (The Japanese Type 38 Arisaka) and yet they sell for far less than other guns. No demand. Don't get me started about "hard to reload for". Well whatever, my rant for the day.

I've seen more than a few higher valued M12's ba$tardized by Bubba's as well. Was real bad when the steel shot thing came about...chokes reamed out, forcing cones worked on, etc. Might have been nearly 2 million made but I'll bet my first born that ten percent or less still remain in good condition and original ...be it a plain jane field or black diamond trap gun. Just makes the few remaining factory M12's a bit more rare. And as Struff stated...no better Zombie defence shotgun on the planet. I'm going back to sleep...
