I picked up a nice little model 1912 in 16 guage a while back however it consistently fails to eject the fired round. It fires and extracts fine, there is considerable pressure applied by the ejector however the fired case is just slightly too long to be thrown out the ejection port. I've heard that some of these older 16 guage guns fired slightly shorter shells than the 2.75 inch standard today. How can I make this little gem perform?

Thanks.

The port or the ejector or both will require modification...you maybe able to do that yourself... the chamber should also be altered to reduce pressure. I have a forcing cone reamer for 16 gauge...

Your gun does have a short chmber. 2-5/8" to be exact. Use Kent Traditional Game 2.5" (65mm ) shells. Any shop that stocks Kent stuff can order them if they don't have them in stock. They are good shells, besides being what that gun was designed for.

WHAT HE SAID!
I have a 20ga 2 1/2" and a 16ga 2 9/16" model 12 use the Kent ammo or load your own. Making the ejection port longer on a model 12 is not so easy stick with short shells.

don't ream it

get a MEC loader with the short kit and load 2.5" (65mm) shells for it, like I do. It's pretty easy to cut down 70mm hulls to fit. Kent does make 65mm 16ga ammo, but it's damned expensive today and scarce. Enjoy your gun. My research says they were chambered 2 9/16ths, not 2 5/8ths. Load it with 2.5s and you'll be safe.

It is not a big job for a gunsmith use a 16ga long forcing cone reamer to lengthen the chamber and a milling machine to open the ejection port you do not have to change the ejector .I have done both 20ga,and 16ga,

The value in the gun is in it not being modified. That is why some companies still make suitable ammo. Any compitent gunsmith is capable of doing the modification but if he's ethical he will advise you of the value of not modifing. The difference in cost between the proper cartridge and modern stuff, because it is sixteen guage, isn't that great.
