Hello folks. My uncle asked me to look over his old Winchester Model 12 shotgun. From what I gather the serial number number makes it from 1954. The barrel fits very loose to the action. I checked the barrel adjusting sleeve and it has already been adjusted as tight as it can be. So it appears I need the next size sleeve up. I believe the sleeve in the gun might be proof marked with a 1 but it is hard to say for certain. Does anyone know where I can get a barrel adjusting sleeve? Possibly a #2? Does anyone stock these in Canada? Thanks

When fitting adjusting sleeves on the good old model 12 Nu Line Guns ( a US concern that specializes (among other models ) in the model 12 ships a packet of 5 or 6 and askes the smith (this is a job for a model 12 smith) to return the ones that did not fit. It is not as simple as one up or down on numbering. In Canada it has become virtually impossible to find anyone that is competent enough on models 12 to do the work. Brownells sell brass washer shims to take up the wobble and they work OK as a last resort. My buddy's model 97 was put back into the field with one of these washers. IF you choose the washer route it is important to note that using the takedown feature will become unadvised. The brass will wear to quickly when taking the gun down. This will bring you back where you started. I would advise all model 12 owners to avoid taking their guns down. This is the most common cause of wear and using up the adjustment quickly. Your 1954 gun likely suffers from being taken down too much. I hardly think it is near worn out.

The number system does not work as stated I have worked on model 12 for yrs and at one time
had a good collection of adjment sleeves but no more it is a trail and error system when replacing adjusting sleeves on a model 12 . I only have 3 or 4 left I don’t think there is a smith in Canada that has a selection . I started hoarding model 12 parts in about 75-76 when I did warranty work for Winchester back then I would pic up the phone call Winchester USA and they would send me parts . Times they are a changing

I had about 12 that I sold here on the EE when I first joined. All I remember is the guy was from Ontario
I would run a WTB on the EE maybe he may chime in and help you
That is the last I know of down this way
Cheers
