Hi!

I am currently taking apart my winchester model 12 and I am having trouble with some stubborn parts. I am trying to get everything off the barrel so that I can do work on each individual part but I am having a hard time getting the receiver extension off. I figured out how to get the adjusting sleeve off by removing the adjusting sleeve lock and then threading it off. But how do I get the receiver extension off now? It looks like it should thread off but it just won't budge. Has anyone had success getting this off and could share their strategy with me??

Thanks!
Evan

Make a mandrel that fits in the barrel closely and insert it from the chamber. Grip the barrel in a barrel vice with a correct fitting bushing over the mandrel. The mandrel is going to help prevent the barrel vice from deforming the barrel. Once it is all tight and secure, you should be able to unscrew the extension. Heat it up with a propane torch first... just enough so a drop of water will sizzle...

I haven't removed one in 25 years... it isn't worth the effort unless you have a real need to...
