hello i'll start by saying im not 100% certain this is where i would post this but im having a problem wih my winchester 12 gauge. after i fire a shot and i go to pump it more than 1 shell wants to come out of the magazine tube. i've seen videos where people who have similar problems with various winchester shotguns take something out of the trigger group and bend a piece slightly and it catches the shells but i wanted to do some research before i go bending pieces from the trigger group. has anyone hadbthis problem or know of a solution? while explaining the solution or problem pictures would be a big help. thank you in advance and if im posting in the wrong forum feel free to let me know. thanks

likey some crud under the shell stop in the side of the receiver. strip out the trigger group, drop out the stop, clean and place in its spot in the receiver. it should pivot up and down in its respective spot freely without much force. if not you may have to scrape some crud and clean.
if that doesnt do it look for damage or mods.

i think the shell stop may be worn but i will give it a good clean and see how it functions after. thank you for taking the time to shed some light.

Gut that thing right down and clean it out well.
Sometimes crud and carbon can build up inside and stop the follower/feed ramp (also the cartridge stop in the model 12 design!) from dropping back down to the bottom to block the next shell in the magazine tube.
People don't strip the Model 12 down and clean it very often because it can be a pain. So a lot of them have never been cleaned well in general inside the reciever etc
Take off the trigger group and stock and get the bolt out of there and clean everything real good.
See if that fixes it first.

I don't think the "feed ramp" acts as a cartridge stop on the model 12. There is a spur on the bottom of the bolt that stops cartridges when the action is closed. When the action is opened the cartridge stop blocks the cartridges in the magazine while the rearward travelling bolt allows the first shell to slide onto the carrier or feed ramp. That's how the last one I took apart worked anyways.

Mikey . . .The shell cutoff is what maintains the shells in the magazine until needed. . The shell cutoff must be installed correctly to function correctly. .

This is the procedure that works for me:

- gun empty with action closed, safety on
- gun horizontal bottom up
- remove rear trigger screw and slide out the trigger assembly (assy)
- hold the gun steady and remove the shell cutoff
- clean the round hole the shell cutoff pivots in
- clean moon shaped slot in receiver where the front of the shell cutoff slips into

To replace the shell cutoff correctly, tilt the gun slightly to the right, and slide the curved front of the cutoff into the female slot in the receiver, at the magazine tube, while you place the cutoff pivot post into the recess hole in the frame.

Maintain holding the gun horizontal with bottom up and tilted slightly to the right, in order to keep the shell cutoff from falling out, and slide the trigger assy back in place. . It's important to make certain the bolt is in battery and hasn't slipped out of the receiver notch. . If it has, press the bolt forward and back into battery. Replace the trigger screw. . Check to make certain the front of the shell cutoff is in the curved slot of the frame or it won't function correctly. .

Also, Model 12's show some of the shell case head sticking out of the magazine tube. . This is normal. . To empty the magazine, press up on the shell carrier and the shells should come out into your hand. . No need to run them through the action to unload the magazine.
