Winchester model 12 feeding issues

I just received a Winchester Model 12 from my grandfather as a gift I checked the shotgun over and it seems as though when i got to load the magazine tube the shells will not catch and simply pop back out. Any suggestions as to why this might be and how to remedy it? I'll likely be taking it to the gun smith soon if i cant figure out why this is. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Look for gunk in the latch stop mechanism which is supposed to hold the edge of the shell's rim while in the magazine tube.

I have found the problem! It was actually my fault, as I'm new with to the model 12 shotgun I didn't realize how the operating system truly worked. It was my error, not the shotguns!
