Recently looked at a really good condition Winchester Model 12 Y series 12 gauge trap gun.Just wondering what these guns are going for these days?
 
$800-$1200 all about condition nib possibly 1200 nice guns I have s few s skeet gun a trap gun and a couple of field guns , shot many 10 of thousands of rounds thru s standard shocked trap gun they were very popular in the 70’s -mid 80’s you could buy a new in through box one at that time for $350-500$

I have my doubts about the upper end of that valuation. Winchester Model 12 shotguns have been slow sellers at the Gun Shows I visit lately. Trap guns in VG to Excellent are more likely to move in the $650 to $750 range.
Plain barrel 12 gauge field guns have to be giveaway cheap to move. Small gauge guns still have lots of lookers. High grade guns are another matter, but still a limited pool of buyers.
I hate to say it, because I love the Model 12.
 
We are talking about y guns not standard guns . I just sold a y trap gun as new for $1000 . Guns shows are not a good reflection of gun values the same guys dragging the same guns that always have some sort of a issue .
 
I've recently seen two different trap Y guns advertised for $2000 cdn (each), both were in nice condition with nice wood. I don't know what the real price will be on them but I can tell you without a doubt that I won't be parting with 2k for either of them!

Factory made Model 12 trap and skeet grades hold their value and most Y series guns were trap grades though skeet and field grades were made too but are definitely the rarer, for lack of a better word of the three Y grades. The last Y series traps(3) I sold I got $1500 apiece for. If you can buy one in mint condition or NIB for $650-$750 point me at it please. I'll buy every single one at that price.
 
Model 12 Trap guns, as much as I like them, have the same problem as cowboy guns (Colt 1883's, Winchester 1886's, etc) in that the guys who love them are a dying breed. That is to say that the younger shooters are really not interested in them, maybe because they don't have matt finishes and plastic stocks or they cost too much, I dunno... From strictly an economic viewpoint, I'd say that if your not shooting your Y/Trap and can get $1500+ for it then you should probably consider letting it go because I think there will come a day when it's worth less, if you can even find a buyer.
 
"New in the box" was not part of the original question, nor addressed by me.
The pool of Model 12 Trap buyers is not deep, and shrinking in my estimation.
I second the recommendation to sell now for best prices.
 
CONDITION! that is everything. So perfect one are always 1000 plus some at auctions. See Landsbrough or Switzers auctions. One with muzzle devise (cutts etc.) drop 200 or 300 dollars. Good shooters with after factory add on will still get you close to 1000. As to old dudes thinning out, MY death has been announced prematurely. WE are still here and there is still a firm market for good guns as some younger ones see the beauty of wood.
 
When they are very worn and need repairs Model 12's are expensive to fix and hard to find someone capable. Back in the late 70's and early 80's they were over priced. Then reality set in with the Canadian market...

The Trap guns with pretty wood and in excellent condition will draw the biggest price in the US. It's a declining market up here.
