Winchester Model 12 Trap

forgive me if this is out of order but were these guns originally the model 1912? The only reason I ask is cause I have a 1912, s/n sez 1913 biult takedown model in nice shape, full choke.

This whole tread is just this side of useless without pics and a serial nimber. Hundreds of variations of M12's produced. The shotgun in question might even be one of the "Y" series made in Winchesters custom shop from left over parts in the 1970's.

No such thing as a 28 gauge trap gun. The only thing that has kept the 28 from going the way of the do-do bird is skeet shooting.

Sorry, I was more asking 28gaugefan a question and left of the 'fan' part of his name, looking back it looks like I was asking about a 28 gauge trap gun...

I didn't think the M12/M1912 Trap guns were so marked? I thought that it ended up just being the Pigeon guns that had the pigeon stamp?

Sorry bitterman...I just misunderstood as well. And yes all M12 trap were marked with a trap designation under the serial number...except for the last few years of production... for whatever reason. My 1963 12 does not but my 1955 trap does and IMO the workmanship on the 55 is far superior to the 63. A pigeon was as you stated engraved on all pigeon guns. Pigeons are very attractive and many custom engraved by several Winchester engravers. Experts can even tell which engraver did the work as they had their own styles.

Thanks, that reaffirms my need to find a marked M12 Trap....sigh.

I found a nice M12 with fancy wood, checkered foreend and solid rib made in 1913 a while ago, but it was refinished at some point in its past, it didn't have any Trap mark on it, so I assume it was just a 12 ordered with special features...
