Winchester Model 1895

Just wondering, how did hunting with this rifle cause you to not get two wolves?

Totally not the rifle, of course. Just that I am not great with open sights and long shots, in the breaking light of early dawn. Felt like it would have been a easy shot with my normal scoped bolt-action. :)

A newer Browning /Miruko should be strong enough for a rebore/barrel to .338-06 , 35 Whelan or 9.3x62 loaded to within sane levels...shot out .303's to .338-.303......Harold

^ 35 territorian would be a good one (358 in a .303 case). Sounds like it's not safe to do on the older ones though

I don't know much about the .375 Hawk, but every time I see it mentioned it is in an 1895.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Mike Webb, unless there is something special order about it or it is in unfired kinda condition, they just don't demand the high bucks. 30-06 is one of the more common cartridges and in the condition described I'd have to say absolute max at about 750 but more likely less. No pics makes it tough.............

Now an octagon barreled flat side in 30 US or 40-72 might grab my attention.........

In Ont. gun shows I have seen the same guys , for years , with 95's for sale in the $1200. to $1400. range ,,,,,,, not sell.
I watch the prices because I have several of them in ; .30 gov. , .30 US & TWO in .405 .
One .405 is Deluxe & the other .405 is plain. I shot a nice Elk with the Deluxe .405 in Alberta a few years back.
I prefer 1886 , 1873 & 1876 models well over the '95's . Just have some 95's to round out the collection.
I agree , the average '95 ( without bubba touching it) would be closer to $600. to $800. ,,,,,,,,,,, Frank

The Czarist contract 1895's were the most numerous.Only problem was the Finns used them captured from the Soviets as well many ended up in the Spanish Civil War.Rode hard and put away wet........Harold

The Russian is the only cartridge the 95 was made in that I do not have..................but the one at Epps is not complete or original.

I purchased a flat side action and am going to build a 9.3-405 on it, I looked at the 9.3X74 case but it is way too long for the action. I have scads of 405 brass and more is available. I was thinking maybe an octagon 26" tube with a highly case colored action and deep high gloss bluing for the rest, including magazine, lever and hammer, with some very nicely figured and finished walnut c/w ebony forend tip inlay just like the originals...............
