hi all, got one of these "featherweight" beautys & want to use it at my clubs competitions, problem is i can't figure out how to remove the mag plug, & before you start, yes i tried contacting winchester & was told i'd have to contact thier "historian" for a manual cuz they didn't have one lol i knew the guns old but jeez, & google & youtube got nothing, so i'm turning to my fellow CGN'ers for help
 
Should be just a matter of removing the forearm and then the plug should drop out the hole in the front of the mag tube. This is the same hole that the forend bolt goes into.
As an aside, the model 50 is one of the greatest semi auto shotguns of all time. One of the first that really works all the time!

I have two of them. Once you take the forearm off, you'll notice the mag tube only goes about halfway the length of the forearm. 1 in the pipe, two in the tube.
 
If your 50 is actually a "Featherweight" make sure the buffer spring is timed right. If it is not you will beat that gun to a point the frame will crack. If it has the original spring in it order one from Wolff gun springs. This will re new the gun for another 50 years. I own a steel framed 50 (with timed Wolff spring) they are great shooters and lots of fun. You probably already know all of this but keep the floating chamber spotless. They can be prone to corrosion.

The recoil spring should measure 13" in length. . Darryl is correct, pay attention to the recoil spring and keep the gun in time. . You adjust the timing by first verifying the recoil spring is 13" and no less than 12". . Adjust the tension screw until you have good resistance and 1/8" rear movement on lever when action is open.
