I sorta inherited this shotgun and do not know a lot about it, i was wondering if there are any accessories to spruce it up and use it as a home defense gun. Any info is great to. I was hoping some tactical accessories would work but i have no clue whats compatible with it. Its a Winchester model 50 semi auto shotgun.

Since everyone packing not a hell of a lot, rabid bear but that's as rare as a cranked up elephant on meth attacking. My only possible threat would be two legged. And those evil chipmunks that held me at gun point before they went into hibernation.

But i got the gun from a guy who is now deceased and i don't wanna get rid of it but don't have a use other than for home defense. And was hoping to apply a use to it, unless i of coarse just get a combat shotty and put this on the wall like someone said. But i plan on getting a vz58 before another ban happens here to cover my needs.

That is a fairly rare model 50 you have. I have seen a fair number of them and none of them has a Vent rib barrel. Really isn't anything you can ad to it. If you wish to make it a home defense gun, take it to a smith and get the barrel shortened. FS

I have an 'similar' M50 that was setup for trap... it's by far my favorite shotgun to use to shoot clay. The floating chamber does a pretty good job at reducing the recoil.

Other then putting some fresh springs in it and maybe a re-blue/re-finish of the stock... I wouldn't do anything to it.

Cutting it up to make it tacti-cool would be the last thing on my mind, just like butchering a nice Garand... but then again, it's your gun, so you can do as you wish.

Just my 2cents,
Mike

I'm pretty sure the magazine tube of the Model 50 only holds two rounds, plus one in the chamber. I would want to be able to carry more than that for home defense. The forearm screw goes into the end of the magazine cap, so I don’t think you can easily add any sort of extender.

If it’s anything like my model 50, it will throw the shells at least 30 feet. When I’ve used mine for trap they keep telling me that I should shoot it straight up into the air and see if I can hit the bird with the spent shell.

The Winchester Model 50 was introduced in 1954.Disccontinued 1961.About 196,402 shotguns produced.12 and 20 gauge shotguns were offered. The shotgun had a capacity of two shells. With one in the chamber it had a three shot capacity.

The reciever was milled from a solid block. There are no stampings on the Model 50.

The action worked on the short recoil principle. If I remember correctly the action springs are in the stock, only the magazine was located under the barrel.
