Definitely a Marble Goss base. A Goss base will have Goss written on it. Marble Goss I believe was 1939 and up. Desired part.

Hi ; I believe before WW2 Winchester was producing some receivers with a milled top for some sight sets such as the Vaver. My 1947 52B had such a receiver which was probably assembled after the war. If you follow this link it will show pcs of 52B with Vaver and milled receiver where that metal insert fits. Vaver went out of business after WW2.
