I was at the Orangeville gun show today and a fellow had a Winchester Model 61. It is a pump action, 22lr/short, with a rounded barrel not hexagonal. The fellow, who was busy all morning, was asking $525. Now the rifle is in near excellent condition, very minor scratches, the wood looked good for its age but the price seemed high to me. The owner says its becoming a collectors piece and that any lower than $475 would be unreasonable but I figured it was worth more in the $250-$325 range. Am I in left field on this one? Should I have bought it?

Thanks guys!

It sounds :) - respectfully :yingyang: - like you were looking for a "shooter" :D, and came across a "collecter-grade" piece?

I think you may be right! I think its time for me to buy a blue book!:) Ah well maybe I should have bought it after all.

Are there any other good pump actions that aren't now becoming collectors items?

I found the Remington 572, it looks like a solid rifle. Anyone have any experience with one or know who sells them in Canada?

Thanks

You can buy a brand new 572 from Wholesale, I think Rossi still sell a pump. Savage made some great old pump guns back in the day, they aren't really collector pieces unless they are in mint shape.
Model 61's are very collectable, I have one and they are very accurate shooters.

The Rossi copy of a Winchester Model 62 was sold by Taurus for a while, but I think it is discontinued.

If it was a collector grade piece, it would have been selling for at least double that $525.00 price tag. $525.00 is the going rate for a shooter in good no rust condition.
