Hello! For all the Winchester fans out there... Im wondering what dictates the price of one of these rifles? Other than the obvious condition of the firearm.... I have seen them sell from $400 up to thousands? I have read that the number of ribs on the slide can have something to do with value? Serial number of the one in question is 1938xx and is 90%ish condition. They seem like really well put together rifles. Any feed back from someone who know these rifles would be great!

They are, and don't fall off the truck every day. $ 400 for a 90%-er isn't out of line. I've seen them as low as $250 and right out of sight for a "N.I.B." with hang tags!
Condition, bore & smooth operation.

The earlier model 61's had a shorter slide stock. Serial number 1938xx puts it at a 1953 production year and if it is 90% will make it pretty desirable. As always, the right price is whatever you they buyer, are willing to pay for it.

In the past I had a Model 62.Used it and bagged a few rabbits with it.It was a nice rifle, but for myself it lacked the class of the Model 1890,which is pretty much the same rifle, with an octagon barrel. The Model 62 would shoot S,L and LR interchangeably ,while the Model 1890 is cartridge specific .
