I recently got this rifle from my wifes grandfather. His brother bought it new in 1951. Although Winchester serial numbers put the date of manufacture in 1947. It's in really great shape for being stored in a leaky barn for the last 12-15 years. Although looks like someone tried to clean it up with steel wool not long ago.
Would love any other information on this gun, as it doesn't seem many made it into canada.
My plans are to strip it down, see if I can fix the broken stock to keep it original, and get it re blued.
The scratches from the steel wool, is there anything I can do about them at this point?
I'm pretty sure it does not have the original front sight on it, and would love to find one if someone knows where I might find one.
