Winchester model 70 Alaskan

Where/when did you get it? Have you got the laminate-stainless version?

I got it from Bashaw last October. Stainless/Laminate. I'm quite impressed. I handload 250gr bullets and get and honest 1" group with them. Fit and finish on the rifle is excellent. It isn't light although my interest in lightweight heavy recoiling rifles has diminished.

I also have the Extreme Weather in 270 Win. This rifle is a winner also. Light and handy and will shoot federal blue box to MOA all day long.

I'm a certified rifle nut. I'm always buying, selling, and trading. I've owned just about everything at one time or another from sporterzed enfields up to big $$ custom jobs. These newer Winchesters are by far the finest factory produced rifles I've ever seen come from a big manufacturer. Fit and finish is parallel to SAKO. Accuracy is good. The triggers are nice and seem to adjust down to a crsip 3.25lbs, which is perfect for a hunting gun. I honestly don't think either the Alaskan or the Extreme Weather could be improved upon in either design fit or function.

It is wrong to want one in 300 win mag when you can have one in 338 or 375, I have the stainless version in 338wm.

What would a .300 do that you couldn't do with a .338? A 210gr. bullet out of a .338 will shoot just as flat as a 200gr out of a .300, and all you're giving up is a little sectional density. Plus you can hammer larger game with 250-300 grainers, something the .300 will never be able to do.

I hate the .300WM due to the muzzle blast... .338WM is a pussycat compared to it. You do not get the excessive muzzle blast with the .338, that you get with the .300.

.338WM recoil is virtually identical to a 12ga shotgun.

As an owner of the new FN M70 Featherweight I couldn't agree more. They really hit the ball out of the park with this rifle.

Other than the fact that I love all my guns, I think I could sell the works and just buy a .300H&H, .338WM, keep my .416RM ZKK-602 & my CZ-550 .458Lott... plus half a dozen other 'must-haves', and I'd be all set.

I have a m70 in 338 winch. look for used, as I have found that mag rifles don't get used that much because of the cost of ammo and they are almost aways in exc/mint condition

Answer: I simply dont like 300 win mags, If I use a 300 magnum I use a 300 wby, 300 Rum or a 30-378Wby

Nothing like punching a bigger hole

Remington Core-lokt are about 50 bucks where I shop. They shoot awesome out of all of my guns and really well in my new Alaskan 375....I do reload too but have yet had time to test them. Gonna take her moosin this year.
