This morning I was on my way to a family together and on the way stopped at a small gun shop 1.5 hours away. For the past year and a little I had been looking for a Model 70 Coyote Lite, just to have, no real need for it at all. And having no luck within Canada I gave up and settled for a featherweight...
Walking into the store expecting to look at and buy a featherweight, they happened to have a coyote lite in 308! Half hour and $1200 later I was walking out of the store with a brand new FN Winchester and one upset girlfriend
After the family mish mash, I got home and slapped a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40 stainless scope on it, along with burris rings and bases. Its one beautiful lookin unit!
Overall the fit and finish on this rifle is unreal!! The bell and carlson stock doesnt feel cheap, its very solid and textured to provide good grip in any conditions! The flutes in the barrel were clean and crisp, the pachmayr recoil pad is very soft, should be a dream to shoot! I compared it side by side to a tikka, browning, sako and kimber when I bought it and in my mind this one was the nicest! And $400 less then a kimber
The MOA trigger is a little on the heavy side (4.5 lbs) but very crisp and 0 creep whatsoever, and according to Winchester it is user adjustable so I might end up turning it down to that 3lbs mark.
The action is super smooth, cycles very nice, and what sold me on it was the CRF. It didn't matter what I did today I couldn't get that gun to jam at all! Not to mention it threw snap caps half way across the room when the action was cycled with authority!
I will hopefully get to shoot it here this weekend, pending the wind stays down, and I will post results after I shoot it! Also pics will be coming soon!
The gun and scope weighs in at 8lbs 3 oz. Which I dont think is to bad at all.
You could say I'm more then a little pumped to finally have a FN Model 70 in the safe, and so far super impressed with it. If it shoots as good as it feels and looks, I will be buying another winchester model 70 in the near future!
Finally, on a side note, how do you guys break your barrels in? Or do you even believe in that whole procedure? I feel like I should maybe try it with this rifle, havent on any other new ones I have bought and they were all MOA rifles.
RANGE PICS UP!
