Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather

I shot my EW 70 (300WM) in today. Got it on paper at 100 and shot a few groups. I hate to go against the flow but the stock is my least favorite feature of the gun so far. I'm going to pull it apart and adjust the trigger tonight, it has way to much travel for my liking.

The new M 70's are bedded on the recoil lug and tang with some kind of melted plastic. The stock is ridgid and light. Can't comment on accuracy because I haven't shot it much yet. The rail that the anti bind rides on appears to be wearing away some king of plating with not very much action cycling. The trigger weight adjustment screw was backed out many turns before it lightened. Any similar findings?

Mine had epoxy bedding in a few spots. Not sure if it's different on the stainless/synthetic but I thought it had a bedding block.

If you look closely I'm sure its plastic goo. I've seen it on the feather weight and the SS/syn. The ss does have an aluminium block but like chuck said, bedding is still needed. The squirt in bedding compound they are using is still better than nothing right? "ahemrem"

You couldn't be more wrong. I've personally seen the tupperware stock on a 75 snap at the wrist with a LIGHT fall on the butt of the rifle. This is aside from the flimsy junk they're made with. I spend to much time and money hunting to not consider a quality firearm "necessary".

10-4, looking for a hunter rifle for @$1000 that doesn't need a new stock and trigger C/W crf.

Maybe in your opinion and a few other I am, thats cool but I dont go hunting and fall over much...I loose weight on my body not a rifle, stock or scope. My terribly cheap tupperware stocks usually end up downing a booner buck every odd year and countless coyotes (don't tell them this). I even shoot a cheap shotgun and limit out on pheasant most trips too.

Cheers!!

does anyone have any pictures of group sizes this rifle can produce? I need some legitimate info to feel good about going out and spending this kind of cash in these recessionary times.

Winchester model 70

re tupperwqre stocks. I have one, and it is no longer on the rifle. Contrary to advertizing it is not stable. In the summer the thing is very soft and warps to one side putting pressure on the "free floated" barrel. I could not get the thing to group consistently until I put on a used wood stock, and then it becam a one inch (or less) big game rifle . I have not had or used a McMillan although I would like to.

My best guess was that in back to back days hunting, I picked-up some condensation when the metal changed temps. I switched to tri-lube after the second freeze up and haven't had problems.
I believe most guys who hunt at those temps use no oil. I'd consider graphite, although if it's picking up condensation that may not be ideal either. By the way who makes Tri-Lube? And I would also put the bolt on the defrost vent if driving to another spot or if you have a rugged case, leave it in the box? Oh and what's the purported difference with this "extreme weather"? Some kind of Teflon?

What good are pictures of groups shot with someone else's rifle going to do you?

Chuck your post is going to make me do the broken record.

Answer: feel good about going out and spending this kind of cash in these recessionary times.

Haha, just picture in your mind how happy you will be with a new rifle in your hands! That's the only picture you need ;)

What stock was it? Not a Bell and Carlson I hope, be specific.
