Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 7mm-08 Value and Scope Recommendations

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my help request. As the Title proclaims, I am looking for some help with a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 7mm-08. The local Canadain tire has this gun on sale for $750, it is the newer CRF style bolt, and I have had my eye on this caliber for some time. I have one of the older Model 70 Featherweights in 30-06, but it has the PF style bolt. It has developed a fair amount of bolt bind, and even when stripped and cleaned 100% the stiffness returns after a few shots. I know the MSRP for this rifle is around $1200, but nobody in their right mind buys a rifle at MSRP. My question is: At $750, is the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight a good buy and is there anything I should be aware of or check? Also, as a side note: Will a Leuopld VX3-i 2.5-8x36mm be a good pairing for this rifle hunting deer out to 350 yards? Thank you again.
 
I seen that...if i didn't already have 3 7-08's i would have grabbed that....can't go wrong, get Don to carry it up front for you! :)
 
I have it held for the time being. Was planning on going tomorrow morning and checking it out. I'm hoping it's on sale because it's old stock, not because something is wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with it....LOL...I'm going in at 1 PM....if its still there its coming home with me.

Its a very nice rifle, you won't be sorry...if you don't like it PM me and Ill buy it off you for 750.00

Great deal! Classy rifle in a great Caliber. That scope is great, have one. But if you are going out to 350, consider something with more magnification. 12x at least, maybe 15. Just will make things much easier, why handicap yourself with an 8x top end? Enjoy!

I have the older Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36 and it is a great scope for deer hunting. I think it will pair very nicely with your 7-08 and it will work just fine out to any reasonable shooting distance you may encounter.
 
I already have one in 30-06, it is quite the gun when you get it loaded up with 180's. Not as bad as the 7 Mag, but still a good push
 
I hope you bought it. Here in NH, a competitive price for that rifle would be well over CAD $1100, every day.

I have one (in .243 Win.) Great rifle, very nice trigger. I don't think I'd part with mine for CAD $750, and it's several years old.
 
I paid 750 for mine 10 years ago, It is one of my favorite Deer rifles and I love the mauser action!! So I would say that is a good deal!!! I have a Leupold Vx3 4.5 to 14x50 on mine that works well! Actually I just has Sheppards Pie from the deer that I shot with it in November :)
