The serial number is 54###X.
Would this be a Pre-64?
It sure appears this would kick being in a FW.
Whatever info you might shead would be appreciated.

A quick and dirty reference:

Pre 64's had a controlled feed mauser type claw. Kinda like this
Controlledfeed.jpg

Post 64's are push fed.

Heres a good reference

Does the bolt have a claw that runs parallel down the right side of the bolt? If so, its either a pre-64, or if it has a "push feed" bolt which means the extractor is contained within the bolt facing.
BUT, according to Wikipedia, all model 70's with a serial number lower than 700,000 were pre-64 actions. Congrats.

Yes it will be a pre-64 --- '61 or 62.

The first rifle off the line in 62 was 545447, you figure it out. ;)

Grab it if a decent price, it will be a nice rifle. Worst case if it is too loud or what have you, put a longer barrel on it. 257 Wby, another 264, 7mag, 338...tons of options.
