Winchester Model 88 Whoops!

I got lucky I guess. A newbie hunter brought me his dad's old abused 88 last fall. It was so full of dirt and rust and lint that the only solution was a complete strip and clean. I used nearly a whole can of crud buster and wore out an already used toothbrush, but we got it done. Didn't lose any parts and had no real trouble with reassembly. Maybe I just got lucky but I took it apart carefully, memorized how the parts fit together, and put them back where they came from. I don't think it's rocket science, but wish you good luck with your project. I understand the frustration if things just don't work. Careful persistence is the key I suggest.

Roy Dunlap, said in his book, the Winchester Model 24 was most often the gun brought to him in a paper bag. Folks would attempt the take it apart for the cleaning routine and got themselves in quite a mess. It got worse when they'd use the shake it method for disassembly. Coil springs, pins and parts in a heap with no idea where things go.

You can sometimes fix something if you first figure out how it works.

"Theory of Operation" ;) You just have to look beyond the exterior of the rifle and understand the mechanism of why & how it works.
