Cleaning a Winchester Model 88 and being a bit anal. How do you remove the trigger mechanism from the receiver. Running out of q-tips and looking for an eaiser method. Have looked at exploded view but not much help.

For a rifle built in 1964, the metal is in great shape, barrel looks good but I want to clean all the burnt powder redidue form inside the receiver

Cleaning it with Hoope (old recepie bottle). Then sprayed if with G96. When wiping it down, noticed my cloths were brown after rubbing the outside of the reciever. The receiver is in good condition with no visable rust spots. Is the G96 finding stuff that I cannot see or is it removing all the Hoppe that I used from metal?

YOu need to make a set of blind assembly pins that will hold the internal parts together while you slide the trigger group in and out of the action.
These pins have the same diameter as the pins that hold the trigger group in the receiver but are only as wide as the trigger group.
Take photos of the action assembled and as you take it out before you disassemble the trigger group. Some parts can be switched from side to side but should not be.

I did that many times, the first time was B-----d, with things flying all over the place, lucky the room was small, never thought of the blind pin trick. I'm going back a ways but doesn't most of the trigger, sear firing pin assembly all ride on one pin. Make yourself a good sketch for re-assembly, taking apart is easy as always.

To line everything up is the major problem, I made a very long tapered, pointed punch same dia. as the pin. I pushed this through the assembly with the pin following, reverse the procedure to dis-assemble, driving the pin out with the blunt end. After the first time it was easy. FWIW --- John303.

Line everything up using a blind pin, insert the assembly and use the stock pin to push out the blind pin.
Use a blind pin to disassemble as well. Take photos. They will help.
