Hey guys, a fella had a Winchester Modell 88 in good condition With older Bushnell scope. He wants $700.00 for it. This seems quite high. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Seems too high. There are a couple at the LGS for quite a bit less. Don't recall the prices, but they are both less.

Was looking at them both myself yesterday at the local gun shop... Both are pre-64's in .308 Win. Well used but not abused. Both have older 4x scopes in Weaver tip-off mounts. They are $425 each... ;)

I was there yesterday too! I picked up that 25-06 for another CGN member.

That was that Newton rifle rebarreled with the Rem .25-06 take-off barrel?

I was there when you were picking it up... ;) :D

That be the one. I was on strict orders not to buy anything else. :)
I also had a time limit!
 
Old guy out by me has one in .308, is in ok condition, he wants $1000.00 for it, but then, I want to win a lotto, too.
Told him $350-400, he says he will keep it, so it goes.

Not a bad deal....if it comes with a 3-12x56 Ziess.:D

Post '64 Model 88's had pressed checkering and the levers were made of cast steel alloy. I can't see any reason that a post '64 88 would be better. Having said that post '64 model 70's were more accurate than pre '64's. Maybe the 88/100 series were the same?

pre -64 88s are worth around 100$ more than post 64's. .358's are worth the most, than .284's, than .243's than .308. $425.00 for a pre 64 .308 is a pretty good deal around here, if it's not to beat up.
